Under extremely cold conditions under the New Lynn covered green last Thursday evening Kaarem Al Darra (‘AD’) and Michael Adolph played a Mt Albert pair in the final of the Auckland Men’s 1-8 Pairs. After five ends AD an Michael were five down, but a good four got them into the game. After seven ends it was 7-7. It was at this point our local team got into their stride with some good tight bowls to move out to a 12-7 lead after thirteen ends. On end sixteen it was 16-8 and with two ends to go the local team were looking good. The game could have been closed out on the next end but a great run shot by Mt Albert killed the end. A replay of the end had our local lads holding second shot but the Mt Albert Skip cleanly removed this second shot with his last bowl to gain a four taking the score to 16-12. However, AD and Michael were not going to let this one get away and covered opposition bowls to the extent that Mt Albert could only gain two shots, making it ‘game over’ for a great win. Our local team was well supported by many Club members who turned out to watch the final.
